About Us

Here I am beside my husband on our wedding day, sharing extra virgin olive oil from a quaich. A quaich is a shallow, two-handled Scottish drinking cup, often called a loving cup or cup of friendship. Sharing it at a wedding symbolises love, trust and unity between the couple and their families. Traditionally, it holds whisky. Ours held high-quality extra virgin olive oil from Sicily.

Why olive oil? For us, it represented a wish: good health, a long life together and many years of enjoying each other’s company. A small gesture expressing something deeply important to our marriage.

My interest in nutrition and olive oil began two years ago, when my mother became incurably ill with cancer. Faced with something I couldn’t change, I desperately wanted to find ways to support her wellbeing through food and everyday choices.

During that search, I came across Jane McLelland’s How to Starve Cancer. The book prompted me to think more deeply about nutrition.

That experience changed the attention I gave to food: where it comes from, how it is produced and what do I put in my body. The ancient Greeks recognised the importance of food in supporting health, although their understanding of medicine differed from ours today.

Extra virgin olive oil became a particular fascination of mine. I discovered an ingredient treasured for its flavour, with nutritional qualities that include unsaturated fats, vitamin E and naturally occurring polyphenols. Its place within a heart-healthy Mediterranean diet gave me another reason to appreciate it.

I also learned how much an oil’s composition depends on the olive variety, growing conditions, harvest, extraction and storage. The words “extra virgin” on a label don’t tell the whole story. Olive oils can vary considerably in freshness, flavour and polyphenol content. Visit our Health Benefits page to learn more about their nutritional qualities and why these differences matter.

What began as a search for ways to help someone I love grew into a lasting interest in good food and the people who produce it. That journey inspired me to found Olive Kin: to seek out exceptional extra virgin olive oils, made with care by producers who respect their land and their craft, and bring them to a community that shares my appreciation for healthy and wholesome food.

Much love,
